My Journal Urns have emerged as an exploration of forms that express my thoughts directly. Words stamped on torn fragments of clay.
I spend hours writing in journals that have become as much illustrated pages as they are expressions of what I am thinking and feeling. I tear and cut images and illustrations from ephemera and magazines to create pages that I then write on. As I write, I highlight the thoughts that are preoccupying me. It seemed a natural progression to put some of those thoughts onto my ceramic urns.
As personal explorations, these urns are not for sale. However, I would be thrilled to create a commissioned urn or vessel using phrases and thoughts that resonate with you. Send me an email — we can start a conversation!
The Japanese call these little sippers Guinomi – distinct from Yunomi because they are smaller. Often made for sipping sake. I think of them as a way to take small sips of a special drink. Sake is delicious, but maybe you have a special whiskey or scotch you want to taste. Take a sip, savor the aroma and taste. You won’t be gulping your drink with these!
